The Biggest Mistake Of My Life

By: 24

I almost made the biggest mistake of my life when we were stranded on that Island. The Island where my Great, Great Grandfather escaped from after burning his family to start the Centre. You are probably wondering what the almost biggest mistake of my life is. Well, let me tell you. It happened in front of the fire of Ocee’s house. I almost kissed Jarod. In my moment of weakness I almost kissed my childhood friend and my prey. I was trained to distrust him and to think of him as nothing more than a monster and a possession that needed to be returned to its rightful place. I remember when we were children and we would go on so many adventures. He was my friend then until my father split us apart. I thought that we would always be friends, but my father didn’t’ like me talking to the lab rat because it might give him ideas of escaping, or it might distract him from his work. We couldn’t have that because he made the Centre a lot of money and my father was greedy.

When my father, Raines and the sweeper team came I looked at Jarod to see his reaction and he looked scared. Scared at what might happen to him when he was returned back to the Centre. I never thought that he would be scared of anything, but I found out otherwise. Then I watched as pain crossed his face when I pulled my hands away from his cuffed one’s. I told myself that he’s a prisoner and needs to go back. That he’s a lab rat that needs to go back to his cage.

Was it the biggest mistake of my life not kissing him? Or would the biggest mistake of my life could have been kissing him again? Yes, I remember the first kiss that I gave him. He was so young, innocent and naïve then and he still is even though he’s been out in the world for six years.

The End

The Sun

By: 24

Jarod curled up on the bed of his room. He had found his parents a few months ago and everything was going great. A few days ago he had called Miss Parker and there was no answer and then he called Sydney to find out where Miss Parker was. Sydney had told him that the Centre had her killed. The phone dropped out of his hand as he heard Sydney call his name. His knees couldn't hold him up anymore and he sunk to the ground. Tears streamed down his face as his young clone Jeremy had picked up the phone to find out what was happening. Jeremy said goodbye to Sydney and stared at the phone in shock. The woman who tried to save him was dead. His brother was having a hard time of it. His knees were drawn up and his hands were clasped around his knees. He was whispering the words no and tears were streaming down his face.

I'm coming round to open the blinds

You can't hide here any longer

My god you need to rinse those puffy eyes

You can't lie still any longer

And yes they'll ask you where you've been

And you'll have to tell them, again and again

His mother came in his room to find him curled on the bed looking at nothing with the blinds drawn down. She came in and put them up looking at her oldest son. She shook her head as she saw him staring at the wall. She saw him raise his hand to his eyes as the blinds were opened. The sun shone through the window and onto the bed and into his face.

And you probably don't want to hear tomorrow's another day

But I promise you you'll see the sun again

And you're asking me why pain's the only way to happiness

And I promise you'll see the sun again.

Come on take my hand.

We're going for a walk, I know you can

You can wear anything, as long as it's not black.

Please don't mourn forever, she's not coming back

And yes they'll ask you where you've been.

And you'll have to tell them, again and again.

How could the Centre kill one of the most important people in my life? He and his mother had gone for a walk to talk about things, but he didn't think that she really understood. She wanted him to quit mourning and go on with life. He didn't think that he ever could. Would this pain ever go away? It wasn't like when his brother died. Yes, he mourned, but because he didn't know him that well he didn't really dwell on it. He knew Miss Parker ever since they were children and that bond never really broke. Not even the Centre could truly break the bond that they had as children.

And you probably don't want to hear tomorrow's another day

But I promise you'll see the sun again

And you're asking me why pain's the only way to happiness

And I promise you you'll see the sun again

And I promise you you'll see the sun again

Do you remember telling me you'd found the sweetest thing of all

You said one day of this was worth dying for

So be thankful you knew her at all

But it's no more.

He had told his mom when he had first met her. About the experiment when they met. How she had given him his first kiss. Their adventures together. Their tearful goodbye as she left to boarding school. She had promised to see him again, but she never had and he missed her. He told her that she was his light in the dark and now that light was gone. She was what kept him going inside the Centre and outside as well. She gave him strength and she was his friend even if she never thought of him as her friend.

And you probably don't want to hear tomorrow's another day

But I promise you you'll see the sun again

And you're asking me why pain's the only way to happiness

And I promise you you'll see the sun again

And I promise you you'll see the sun again

He vowed that someday he would make the Centre would pay for what they did to her. He would take the Centre down himself is nobody was willing to help him. They would pay dearly for what they did to her. This would be the most rewarding pretend of his life. To take down the Centre. Someday the sun will shine for him, but now he would mourn for her.

The End.

Firsts

He watched as his baby girl stood up and took a step towards him. His little Debbie was taking her first step and he was so proud of her. He loved his baby girl and vowed to protect her anyway he could. Too bad her mother couldn’t see this joyous occasion. She was out gambling. She had missed their child’s first step the first of many things to come. There will be many more firsts that he would hope to witness in his life.

She made her way to his open arms and he gathered her up and cuddled her. He was such a proud daddy as he hugged her for making her first steps.

Debbie

By: 24

Debbie slept in the extra room of Miss Parker's house while her father slept on the couch downstairs. They had to leave their house because it was being worked on. They could have stayed in a motel, but her father said that it was okay to stay at Miss Parker's house. She climbed out of bed and went downstairs because she was thirsty and wanted something to drink plus she was a little bit hungry. She heard a noise in the kitchen thinking it might be either Miss Parker, or her father she was surprised when she saw someone in black with dark hair in the kitchen. She first froze as she looked at the tall figure and she could see that he froze as well.

“It’s okay Debbie, I won’t hurt you.”

“Who are you and why are you here? And how do you know my name?”

They had both gotten used to the light that was turned on as Debbie entered the kitchen.

“My name is Jarod.”

Broots hearing his daughter talk to someone in the kitchen and he heard a voice that at first he didn’t recognize. He quickly got up and walked to where his daughter was.

“Jarod, what are you doing here? Miss Parker is upstairs sleeping?”

The nervous man was looking around. If Miss Parker found out that Jarod was here she would be mad.

“I thought that only Debbie was sleeping here?”

“No, I’m sleeping on the couch while Debbie is sleeping in the guest bedroom. Our house is being fixed up and Miss Parker let us stay here.”

Debbie curiously watched as the two men talked to each other. They knew each other it seemed like, but how? She knew that her father worked for Miss Parker. She had been inside the Centre and thought that it was a big place and she wondered what went on in that place.

“What are you two doing up?” Asked Miss Parker as she walked in not yet seeing Jarod. She then looked up and saw Jarod standing there.

“What are you doing here boy wonder?”

He looked at her and wondered if she would call the sweepers to come and get him. He looked at Debbie and Broots and then thought that she wouldn’t want Debbie to see what she does in front of the girl.

“I was going to leave you something and then leave.”

“And what was that Jarod? Another headache? Another clue to my past?”

“At least you have a past. I’m trying to look for mine and in the process of doing that I find yours too.”

“Debbie why don’t you go back upstairs.” Miss Parker said to the girl. She didn’t want to get into an argument with Jarod in front of Debbie. She didn’t need to be dragged into what her father and she did for a living.

She went to go upstairs, but she didn’t make it she knew that her father stayed in the kitchen and she listened to see what they would say. She wanted to know who Jarod was and how he knew Miss Parker and her father.

“What did you find Jarod?”

He withdrew a white envelope out of his coat pocket and gave it to Miss Parker. She looked at the envelope and saw the handwriting.

“Where did you find this?”

“In a safe deposit box. I thought that it would have clues to where my parents were at, or why I was taken from them when I was younger. It turned out to be an envelope for you.

To My Darling Daughter,

I sit here writing to you hoping that someday you will be free of The Centre. Sometimes I watch as you and Jarod play together in the Centre. I see the pain that he is in, but his face brightens when you come into the sim lab. I want to take you, Jarod and Angelo out of the Centre. I want you to know that you can always trust Jarod. He will always be there for you.

Love,

Mom

“Did you read this Jarod?”

“You know that I would never read something that is for you.”

“She said that she watched us play in the Centre. She said that sometimes she could see your pain and that you would brighten up when I walked into the sim lab.”

“I remember your Mom. She would come into my room and just talk to me. She didn’t want me to do a sim, or do anything for her. We just talked about how they were treating me. I told her that I miss my parents and told her that if I would ever see them again. She told me about you and what you were doing. She loved you Miss Parker.”

“She talked to you?”

“Yes. She talked to the other kids that were locked up too.”

“I saw a DSA where she talked to Timmy before he became Angelo.”

She got quiet and looked at Broots who looked at the floor.

“I want to Thank you Jarod.” He suddenly had the courage to look up at Jarod.

“For what?”

“For helping me get custody of Debbie and with Damon.”

“He helped you with Damon and Debbie?”

“You didn’t know that?” Asked Jarod

“I never told her.”

“Who else knows that he helped you with Damon?”

“Sydney only because I wanted to know how Debbie was and Jarod needed to talk to Sydney.”

She glared at Broots and then turned to Jarod. “Sydney showed me the DSA of what Damon did. I’m sorry.”

“It’s not your fault. I was the one that thought that Damon was another pretender. I’m a genius and I didn’t get it that he wasn’t. I still can’t believe that he killed Kenny just so that he could have the disk with the sim on it. It would be later that I found out what the true nature of what my sims were being used for and the other pretenders besides Kyle. I still can’t believe that Mr. Raines must have been laughing when he saw us do two sims together and we didn’t even know we were brothers. How could they do that? I mean my parents not only lost one child, but two. How could the Centre kidnap two brothers and keep them prisoners? I just don’t understand that.” He paused and then looked at Miss Parker.

“Jeremy asked if I ever see you again that I should say Thank you to you.”

“Jeremy?”

“You know my clone. He told me that you tried to get him out, but was stopped.”

“Tell him your welcome and I hope that he has a nice life.”

“At least there’s one child that will have an almost normal life. He’ll at least get the chance that I never got. I hope to be one day reunited with them and my mom and sister. I only got to see them both, but haven’t yet met them.”

He paused to look away.

“You’re lucky that Debbie’s here, or I would call the sweepers to take you back to the Centre.”

Jarod suddenly looked up. “Why?”

“Because it’s our job to hunt and find you to bring you back. That’s why.”

Debbie chose that time to come into the kitchen.

“You were thinking of taking him back to The Centre? I remember being there and wondering what they do there.” She turned to Jarod.

“How old were you taken?”

“I don’t know. From the DSA’s I would say about four years old.”

“How long were you there?”

“I escaped four years ago.”

She turned to Miss Parker then. “I gather this wasn’t the first clue that he’s given you?”

“No.”

“Then after what he’s given you through the years and you still want to take him back?”

Not giving Miss Parker the chance to answer she turned to her father.

“And why did you help them try to track him down? Daddy think about it. He was taken from his family all he wants is to find them. His parents miss him and want him back, but he can’t because you guys are chasing him. Think of it if I was taken from you. Wouldn’t you want me to find you even if it was a long time ago and would you want someone after you, or me so that we could never be reunited? And he helped you too.”

“Honey you don’t understand. You can’t go against the Centre. Many have tried.”

“And may have died.” Finished Miss Parker.

“Your mother died because she went against the Centre?”

“Yes.”

“Do you remember Sydney honey?”

“Yes.”

“His brother died because he tried to help Miss Parker’s mother get the children out.”

“I’m sorry Daddy, I didn’t know.”

“It’s okay baby.”

She turned to Jarod and looked at him. She knew that he was a nice man and she could trust him. She went up to him and hugged him. “I’m sorry Jarod that you were taken from your family. I hope that someday you will be free of the Centre and you will be reunited with them.”

“Thank you Debbie.” He hugged the child and then let go.

“I have to go.”

He looked at Miss Parker and Broots. Debbie turned to look at Miss Parker who in turn looked at her. She then turned to Jarod and nodded. “Just this once Jarod.”

“I understand. Thank you.” He turned and went out of the house.

Miss Parker watched as Jarod walked out of her house and then to the two people who were still there. “Let’s all go back to bed. It’s an early day tomorrow.”

Debbie understood why they had to do what they do and she sent a silent prayer that Jarod would be reunited with his parents and that The Centre would be gone out of all of their lives.

The End.

Why

Disclaimer: “The Pretender” and its characters don’t belong to me they belong to TNT and NBC and are being used without permission. Please don’t sue because I have no money.

Why

I sit in my living room wondering why I just don’t run away from it all. From the Centre, from my father’s lies and from Jarod. Why don’t I do what Jarod did not so long ago? Escaping from the Centre from the fate that is my life. Jarod said that only you could change the ending on the fateful day he was going to be taken back to the Centre. Everyone has a choice I think to myself. Jarod chose his when he escaped the Centre and started helping the little guy as I put it. Why can’t I choose to leave like he did? Why do I choose to believe my father’s lies? Why not open my eyes to how the Centre really is? Like Jarod wants me to. Why do I cling to the lies and brush off the truth?

Why can’t I run away? Because of Jarod is one of my reasons not that I would ever tell him that. If I stay I will find ways to not catch him. I could see the pain and fright in his eyes when we were on Carthis when my father walked in with Raines and sweepers. He was afraid to go back. I couldn’t do that to him. I couldn’t put that look into my childhood friends face. I may push him away, but I still think of him as my friend even if he thinks I don’t. If someone else were on his chase then maybe they would catch him and bring him back and make him do those simulations that he hates to do. Another is I can’t leave Sydney and Broots by themselves in the Centre. The place would eat them alive if I left them on their own.

Why do I choose to believe the lies? Why can’t I open my eyes to how the Centre really is? Oh, my eyes are open to the evil the Centre can do. I watched how they addicted Jarod to drugs, I saw them stop his heart and I saw them shoot a friend of his. I saw also what they did to Angelo who used to be a boy named Timmy and I saw what they did to the clone Gemini. I have to stay here to hopefully do something about it. I don’t know what yet, but I want to do something. I want to make my mother proud of me not my father. I know he lies to me and it hurts, but for now I choose to ignore it because maybe if I ignore it, it will go away.

The End

Notes

She walked into the Centre like she had done so many times before. She had accidentally heard how they had gotten the children they had used for the simulations. They still didn’t know that she had heard and for that she was glad. She wanted to do something, but she didn’t know how to do that. How could she get these children out? Who would help? She needed to know whom she could trust. Not only did she need to get these children out, but also she needed to get her child out. She needed to get her daughter out before she got caught in this mess.

She made her way to one of the labs and saw Sydney and her brother overlook Jarod’s simulation. Such a cute little boy and so smart. Which is why they took him in the middle of the night and why he was doing the simulations for them. She visited him sometimes and talked to him. She was so heartbroken when she heard that he missed his parents. She was also heartbroken what his parents must have been though when they found their son gone. She would go crazy if her daughter was kidnapped and she didn’t know where she was.

That was the day that she started to write little letters, or notes to her daughter. To tell her daughter that she loved her and was thinking of her in case if anything happened to her. She was scared that something would happen to her leaving her daughter inside the Centre, but she knew that she had to help these children and their parents because she was a parent herself.

She would talk to Jacob to see what he thought. To make sure that she could trust him before saying anything else. She wondered if Sydney would help, but wanted to find out if Jacob would help first. She watched as Jacob turned to walk out.

“I need to talk to you, but not here.” She caught Jacob before he left.

“Where at?”

“Meet me today at 5:00 at the Café in town.”

“I’ll be there.” Jacob said before he walked away.

She stood there watching Jarod finish his sim and then Sydney took him to his space as he called it. She followed out the door, but went to her office. She made her way to the window and looked outside watching the waves crash onto the shore. Such a beautiful site that housed such an evil place. She shook her head and turned to the chair and sat down. She turned to the picture that was taken with her and her daughter when she was not more than a year old. She smiled at the photograph and then turned to the clock. There was time enough to visit Jarod for the day and see how he was doing and then she had to leave to talk to Jacob.

Café in downtown Blue Cove

She sat there at one of the tables watching the entrance waiting for Jacob to show up. She turned to her cup of coffee that she had ordered and took a sip. The little bell over the door twinkled and she looked up. She saw Jacob come in and look around then saw that he had found where she was sitting and made his way over to her. Sitting in the chair opposite of her he smiled at her.

“What can I do for you, Mrs. Parker?”

“I wanted to know how Jarod’s simulations are going along?”

“They are going along great, Mrs. Parker.” He told her, but she could hear something in his voice. Should she tell him? She listened to the voice that she called her inner sense and knew that he could be trusted.

“Do you know how the children come into the Centre’s possession?”

“Yes, I do.” He said deciding to come clean.

“They steal children to do their dirty work.”

“I know. I was the one that took Jarod. I know it was wrong, but they said that if I didn’t do it that they would kill Sydney. I didn’t want to grab these kids. They belong to their parents not to this place.”

“Are you ready to do something about it?”

“Yes, I am.”

“I am going to get these children out and I need help to do this.” She replied glad to have some help with this.

“I want to help.”

“Okay, but we can’t take Jarod yet. We have to take the other children first and then get Jarod and my child away.”

She got up and Jacob followed her out of the Café and parted ways.

She went home and got out an envelope and a piece of paper.

To My Darling Daughter,

I love you, my baby girl. I want you to know that I will always love you even if I’m not there you will feel my love. I will always be with you.

Love,

Mom

Little did she know that this would be the last note that she would write to her daughter.

Explanations

They drove all day. Jarod was in the back looking at the sights as they went by. Before they had left Jarod had gotten his things back and for that he was glad. At least they wouldn’t have his DSA’s.

Jarod closed his eyes thinking when this game of cat and mouse would end and if he would ever be free, to be truly free. Would he ever be able to stay in one place and not have to look over his shoulder? Would he ever find his family that he was taken from? He wondered at times like these. He opened them when he felt the car slow down. They were at a hotel room and he stretched when they got out. It was nice to be free again.

They got rooms and all gathered in Jarod’s room.

“I know the last time that you were at my house you said that you would explain who you were, but you never did. I want to know now.”

Jarod looked at Rachel. She deserved an explanation because of what she and the others needed an explanation too. He did promise to tell her the last time they were together, but he never did.

“When I was younger I was kidnapped from my parents in the middle of the night. I was taken to a place called the Centre where they trained me to do simulations and made me into a pretender. That is why they took me because I have the pretender gene. While I was there I did simulations on whatever they wanted me to do. Sydney who was my mentor was in charge of me and took me through my paces. It would be later when I was older that I got to meet a young girl named Miss Parker. You saw her at the house when you rescued me. She was my friend and she’s the chairman’s daughter of the Centre. We went on a lot of adventures when I wasn’t working, but that all changed when she went to boarding school. When I was inside I also met some other test subjects. One such boy was Kyle and it would be a year that I escaped that I found out that he was my brother. He was shot and killed by Miss Parker’s brother, Lyle. Ever since I escaped I did various pretends helping people.”

“And I’m supposed to believe that?”

Jarod grabbed his DSA case. “This is a DSA player and these are DSA’s.” Jarod said as he picked up a small DSA. He slipped it in and it was when he was four years old and he said he was finished and then Sydney came in. Another one was when he was in the Apollo simulation and said I’m burning, I’m burning. Another one was slipped in this one was of Kenny being killed and then there was one more of his heart being stopped. The last one was when he met Miss Parker.” You see they recorded my entire life inside the Centre.

“I’m sorry if I didn’t believe you.”

“It’s okay.”

“Who is CJ?”

“CJ is my friend. He helps me inside the Centre. This is not the first time he helped and kept in contact with me. “

“Do you trust him?”

“Of course.”

“We’ll take you to your car. That way you can leave. This will probably be the first place where they will search.”

“Yes, they probably will.”

Jarod slipped into his car and turned the key in the ignition. He merged into the freeway wondering where he would go now. He took out his cell phone and dialed a number.

“This is Sydney.”

“I escaped Sydney.”

“That’s great news, Jarod. How did you do it?”

“My friends rescued me.”

“That’s good. You’re lucky to have friends like you have.”

“Yes, yes I am.” Jarod said as he hung up.

Jarod smiled as he thought of that. If he didn’t have friends like he had, he would have already been at the Centre, but he did have friends like he did and he was grateful.

The End.

Rachel, Neil, Argyle, dog, and Manny piled into the van. They had already packed their things and they left the hotel room making their way to the freeway.

“We’ll make it.” Argyle said to dog. “We have to.”

They traveled all night trying to make it to the place that was in the e-mail that CJ had mailed them. Rachel wondered who CJ was, how they had known her e-mail and how they knew that they were going after Jarod.

They were taking turns driving, so the others could sleep.

They arrived to the house when the sun was barely setting. They got out and Rachel grabbed her gun and told the others to remain behind her. Manny also had a gun out. Since he was a police officer and was head of security he was licensed to carry a gun.

They made their way to the house and quickly unlocked it.

“Freeze everyone.”

“Who are you?” Replied a woman who had dark hair and blue eyes.

“I’m Rachel, VCTF agent.”

“Why are you here?”

“We’re here to rescue Jarod.”

“And who are you?”

“Jarod’s friends.”

“Now put your hands in the air. I won’t be afraid to shoot. Manny putt the cuffs on them.”

They put them on the couch as Manny covered them. Rachel, Argyle and Neil went to the other room and opened it.

Jarod turned his head and stared as Neil, Rachel, Argyle and Dog walked in.

“Are you okay?”

“I’m fine now.”

Neil raced to the stand besides the bed and picked up the key unlocking the cuffs that was holding Jarod to the bed.

“Thank you Neil.”

“You’re welcome, Jarod.”

Jarod walked to the living room with the three.

“I’m going to get you, Jarod. Just wait.”

“I don’t understand. I give you clues to your past, trying to open your eyes to the evil that, that place is and yet you still hunt me?”

“It’s my job. Besides you belong there.”

“No, I don’t. Not anymore. Not after what I found out.” He sadly shook her head still wondering why Miss Parker clung so tightly to the lies that they fed her.

“Let’s go.”

“Sure thing, Jarod.”

They all piled into the car and took off.

Angelo scurried around wondering what he could do for Jarod. He was in danger of coming back to this place. He had to help. He turned his head to the door and opened it.

“Friends help, Jarod. Need information.”

He walked to the computer. No one knew that he was using the computer to keep in contact with Jarod and nobody would know that he helped Jarod again. He smiled at the times that he had helped Jarod and kept in contact with him over the years.

His fingers flew over the computer as he hit the send button. They would help him, he was sure of it. He scampered off and opened a box of cracker jacks, poured some of them out and ate them. He loved these sweet morsels of popcorn. They were tasty. He remembered when Miss Parker had given him some when they were younger and he thought that they were tasty. He had been hooked on them ever since. Mr. Raines even gave him some to eat when he was out.

He went to the grate and slipped into it. He watched as Sydney paced around his desk as Broots stood by.

“I’m sorry, Sydney. I found it and Miss Parker was there.”

“It’s okay, Broots. It’s your job to find Jarod.”

The phone rang and Sydney answered it.

“This is Sydney.”

“We got him. He was still at his last place that Broots found. We have to stay a couple of days here, but he’ll be back inside the Centre soon.”

“You got him?”

“Yes.”

Sydney hang up the phone and sat down. He was afraid of this, of them finding him and bringing him back.

“They found him?”

“Yes, I’m afraid that Jarod’s coming back.”

Angelo listened and then went towards his room and smiled.

They got a hotel room and made one of them into a home base. Rachel set up her computer to see if there was anything about Jarod, or if there was anything else to find.

Argyle was looking outside and turned to dog. “We’ll find him, dog.”

Dog looked up at him and tilted his head as if listening to Argyle and gave a little whine.

“He looks like he understands.” Said Manny.

“He was the one who alerted me to Jarod’s location. He was unconscious and Dog found him. I took him to my place and fixed him up. I saved his life.”

“Why do you call him dog?”

“Because that’s what his is.”

Manny shook his head not understanding Argyle’s logic.

Suddenly there was a chirp on the computer and Rachel stared at it for a minute wondering who would be e-mailing her. She reached for it and logged into her account. It was of a location and when they were leaving and it was signed CJ.

“Guys look at this.” She signaled at the computer.

“We need to go now. J-man needs our help now.”

Argyle got out of the car and led dog to the apartment that was named in the article. He watched as some other people got out of their cars and he nodded to them. He made his way to the apartment and he noticed that the others were doing the same thing. He wondered what they were doing and if they were friends of Jarod’s trying to help too.

He knocked on the door and it opened with Jarod’s roommate opened the door.

“Hello, can I help?”

“Yes, I am Jarod’s friend and was wondering if you could describe the people who took Jarod.”

Rachel got out her badge that identified herself as a VCTF agent.

“My name is Rachel Burke. I need the same information.”

They answered more questions and they left the apartment.

“So how do you know Jarod?” Rachel asked Argyle.

“He helped me with my father.” Keeping the part with the Centre for now.

“I was a police officer, but now in charge with George Harpers security. He helped bring Patrick, George’s son back to us.”

“He helped me with a stalker who wanted to kill someone that I cared about.”

“It looks like we all have been helped by Jarod.”

“We owe him for what he did for each of us.” Replied Argyle.

Manny watched as Patrick put the last piece of the puzzle together. His father was now starting to spend more time with the boy after Jarod had brought him home. He wondered back to the time that he thought that Jarod was the kidnapper, but he couldn’t of been more wrong. He had tried to help them and for that he was glad. He loved Patrick like he was his own son.

He grabbed the paper off the coffee table and looked through it. He stopped at the same article that the others saw and put it down. He could help him. He had to help him because of what he had done.

“I’m leaving.”

“Where are you going?”

“I saw an article about Jarod being missing.”

“The doctor who helped get my son back?”

“Yes.”

“I hope you find him.”

“I hope so too.”

Rachel Burke walked into her apartment and looked around. She had another hard day of work and turned to the kitchen. She was hungry and made herself something to eat. She then took her dinner to the couch and started eating it thinking about the time when Jarod was here. Who was Jarod. He promised to to tell her who he really was, but he never did.

She ate her food, put the bowl on the coffee table and picked up the paper. She too read the same article and put it down. Maybe if she helped then she could find him and he would tell her who he really was. She called into work and took time off.

She first washed her bowl and packed her bag, took her keys off the table where she threw them and locked the door. She got into her car and took off.

She hoped to find him to help him like she helped her those two cases.

Time

Argyle watched as his pop played the accordion as he tried another Wayne Newton song. He loved to hear him play even if it wasn’t very good, but he wouldn’t tell him that. He tried to shush dog that was howling at his fathers playing. He and his father had finally bonded after a long absence. It was all because of Jarod and what he had done. He couldn’t believe that he had tried to sell Jarod back to The Centre, but when he saw those home movies his head got away from him and didn’t stop to think. That was why he got into the messes that he had gotten into in the first place and Jarod had always been there to help him.

He grabbed the paper that was sitting besides him and leafed through it. He stopped at an article and stared at it. Oh, no they got him. The Centre got J-man. I have to help him he thought to himself.

“Dad, I have to go.”

“Where are you going?”

“A friend needs me.”

“Okay, don’t get into any trouble.”

“I won’t dad.”

“Come on dog. Let’s go help J-man.”

Both of them made their way to the car.

He sat looking at the papers like he did everyday. He remembered a time that he had clipped some of the articles in the papers because of some conspiracy theory and he had been on the radio with his talk show. Then someone had tried to kill the person that he cared about. The person that he had hurt because of the experiments he had done to her mother. He remembered how Jarod had helped him and he was thankful for that.

He also remembered that Jarod was a person who was so much more that what he said he was. How he had gotten all that information from the Army and shared that info with him. He then remembered the people who were after him. He never knew what happened after that and he hoped that he was okay. He wondered if he had found his family and if they were together.

He then read something that he would never see.

Missing Person

Jarod Thompson was reported missing by his roommates. As many of you know who may have been reading the papers there has been stories about a man named Jarod who would bring justice to the bad guys of the world and send the police a note and their confessions. Now he needs your help. If you know anything about Jarod, who he is, or can help please call this number, or get into contact with this address.

Summery: Jarod’s helped countless people over the years, but will those people help him when he needs it?

Author’s note: A big thank you to RaChell for helping me with this story. Hopefully I got it right.

He sat watching the ducks as they swam along the lake the water was crystal clear, the sky was a little cloudy, but it was still warm. He got up from the bench; his stomach was telling him he was hungry. He had two roommates this time, but they have no idea who he was.

He unlocked the door, opened it, slipped in and walked towards the living room to watch some TV and then later heat up some food in the microwave. Before he could turn on the TV the lights came on and there stood Miss Parker, Sam and another sweeper that he’d never seen before. She was dressed in a green shirt with black pants and high heels on. She had a grin on her face as she leveled the gun on him. He turned to run, but there were some more sweepers were there.

He punched two of the sweepers and tipped over one of the lamps on the end table as one of them shoved him. He quickly got up as they got closer, he once again tried to run, but they tackled him to the ground upsetting some of the papers and books that were on the table. They putt the cuffs on him before leading him outside. They gathered his DSA case and bag.

“We finally caught you Jarod. Time to go home.” She smiled. She was happy that she finally caught him.

“That is not my home, Miss Parker and you know it.” He looked up to her with his chocolate brown eyes. They were full of pain and fear. His lip was cut where one of the sweepers had punched him in the face before the cuffs were put on trying to get him to be more manageable.

“Shut up and put your hands on your head.” She snapped at him.

----

Jarod’s roommates came into the room and looked around them. They had just gotten home from work. The house was in disarray with the lamp that was broken; the books that were on the table were scatted on the ground along with the papers that were on there.

Lauren went to Jarod’s room to see that his things were taken. She walked back to the living room where Katie was. She was worried because Jarod wouldn’t go anywhere without telling them. The silver case was gone, his duffel bag and his jacket was gone.

“His things were gone. His bag, his silver case and his jacket.” Lauren said as she came back into the living room.

“What happened?” Katie said as she looked up from picking up the papers. She had already picked up the broken lamp and the books.

“I don’t know, but he wouldn’t have gone without telling us. Something happened to him and I don’t know what.”

“We have to go to the police because we’ll probably have to fill out some forms.” His other roommate Katie said.

They both got into the car and drove to the local police station.

Lauren walked up to the desk and waited for the person to finish writing on a paper. “Our roommate is missing. We came home from work today and when we opened the door we noticed that the lamp was broken and papers and books on the table were knocked over. We checked his room and his things were gone. We know him and he would of never left without telling us.”

“What’s your roommates name?”

“Jarod Grady”

A brown haired woman who was wearing a red shirt, brown pants and white tennis shoes was listening in. When she heard the name Jarod she started to walk up to the two women, as they were finished with their report.

“Hello, my name is Susan Dillon. I am a reporter from the Dallas Tribune. Can I talk to you and ask you questions.”

“Sure.” Replied Lauren.

Hole In My Heart

There’s a hole in my heart where my brother should be, but can never be again because he’s gone. I would love to see him again even it is to tell me how they got the kids they were using to do simulations. How they got Jarod and the other kids like him. I wished that I would have listened to him and left with Mrs. Parker, Miss Parker and Jarod in tow. If I did maybe Mrs. Parker would still be alive.

There’s a hole in my heart when I think of Jarod and the pain that he had been in when he was in the Centre. It pains me to think that Jarod thinks that I don’t love him like a son. I love him more than my own son because I’ve seen him grow up from a four year old to the kind and caring man he is now. I wish I could say how happy and proud of him I am, but I can’t.

There’s a hole in my heart where Michelle and Nicolas should be. I loved Michelle when she was here at the Centre, but then she left without a trace. I never knew where she was because the Centre told her to leave me because I had Jarod to take care of.

Hole In My Heart

There’s a hole in my heart where my Mother’s love should have been. I remember the days that we would spend together and we would talk, or she would read to me. I loved the way she brushed her hair and loved it when she brushed mine. She was my life until she was shot dead in the elevator, or at least I thought she was. That was until we found out that Raines shot her after giving birth to Ethan. Nothing could mend that hole.

There’s a hole in my heart where my Father’s love should have been. I’m not sure if he ever loved me. Now all he thinks of me as his little puppet that will dance to whatever tune he wants me to dance to. He wants me to bring Jarod back to where he belongs, but I don’t really know if I want to do that.

There’s a hole in my heart where Jarod should be. I love him and I’ve loved him ever since we were younger. It makes me sad to think that I hate him, but I don’t. I would love to kiss him again, but I don’t know if he would let me.

Hole In My Heart

There’s a giant hole in my heart where my mother and fathers love should have been and where the love of my siblings should have been. There’s a hole in my heart that will never be mended by anybody because you can’t put my heart back together. It all started when the Centre stold me from my bed in the dead of night. Taken to a building that would be my home for years and years.

There’s a hole in my heart where Miss Parker’s love should have been. She did love him when they were children, but then her father felt that they were getting to close he decided to split them apart. I would love to kiss her, but I know that she would never let me.

There’s a hole in my heart where Sydney’s love should have been. I would have loved for him to say that he thought of me as his son, but he has a son. A son that he never would have known about if I didn’t tell him about it. I still want him to tell me that he loved me like a son, but he never will. He doesn’t love me like a son even if he knew me longer.
